You control what gets translated

Trans2 handles only the information needed when you choose to translate text, recognize text from a screenshot, restore purchases, or check for updates. We do not use advertising tracking, sell personal data, or upload your Apple ID or payment details.

In plain language

This page explains what Trans2 does, what it does not do, and how you can control your data.

No advertising tracking

The Trans2 app does not include advertising tracking components, does not track you across apps or websites, and does not sell your data.

Translation is user initiated

Text is sent to a translation service only when you translate selected text, use a translation shortcut, or request translation after recognizing text from a screenshot.

Screenshots are recognized locally first

Screenshots are recognized as text on your Mac first. The recognized text may be sent for translation, not the screenshot image itself.

Purchases are handled by Apple

Payments, subscriptions, and card details are handled by Apple. Trans2 reads purchase status only to unlock features.

When you use translation features

Trans2 is a translation app, so the most important data is the text you choose to translate.

For selected-text translation, Trans2 reads the text you have actively selected and sends that text to the translation service you chose. After translation, the app shows the result and can copy or replace the text if you ask it to.

For screenshot text recognition, Trans2 uses macOS screenshot and text-recognition features to recognize text on device. Only the recognized text enters the translation flow. Screenshot images are not uploaded to the BitBear translation service.

The default Trans2 AI provider sends the text to translate, source and target language, and anonymous information needed for free quota and subscription checks to BitBear's translation service. We do not upload your Apple ID, email, or the raw identifier of your Mac with those requests.

  • We do not use your translation content for advertising tracking.
  • We do not sell your translation content to data brokers.
  • We do not read or send clipboard content unless you start a translation action.

Data stored on your Mac

Trans2 stores some settings locally so the app can remember how you prefer to use it.

Local data may include default languages, selected translation provider, hotkeys, translation history, cached purchase status, daily free usage counters, and third-party translation service settings you configure yourself.

If you add your own third-party translation service access key, it is stored locally and is sent only to the service address you configured when you use or test that custom provider. It is not sent to BitBear.

You can clear translation history in the app or remove local app data to delete information stored on your Mac.

Why system permissions are needed

Trans2 requests only the macOS permissions needed for its features, and you can disable them in System Settings at any time.

Accessibility permission is used to simulate copy so Trans2 can read text you have actively selected. It is also used to simulate paste when you choose to replace text with a translation.

Screen Recording permission is used to launch the system screenshot selection tool for screenshot text recognition. Trans2 does not continuously record your screen.

Launch at Login is managed by macOS login items. You can disable it in System Settings at any time.

Third-party services

Different features involve different services. We try to keep each service limited to the information needed for that feature.

Apple App Store handles product display, purchases, subscriptions, purchase restoration, and refunds. Trans2 does not receive card details and cannot access your Apple ID.

The default Trans2 AI provider uses BitBear's translation service to generate translations. To produce translations, the service may call upstream AI model providers; related data should be processed only as needed for translation, abuse prevention, security, and service operations.

If you choose a custom third-party translation service, translation requests are sent to the service address you configured. That provider's privacy practices depend on the service you choose.

This privacy policy page does not load Google Analytics or Microsoft Clarity. Other BitBear website pages may use visitor analytics tools, but that does not mean the Trans2 macOS app includes similar analytics components.

How you can manage your data

You can manage your data and permissions through the app, macOS System Settings, and the App Store.

You can clear translation history, edit or remove custom API settings, switch translation providers, or revoke Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions in System Settings.

You can manage or cancel subscriptions through the App Store. Payment records, refunds, and App Store account data are handled by Apple.

Transparency for App Store users

The Trans2 app currently does not include advertising tracking, third-party ad components, standalone crash reporting components, or in-app analytics components. Data related to translation services is handled only to provide translation, manage quota, verify purchase access, prevent abuse, maintain security, and troubleshoot the service when necessary.
